FESTIVAL DATES

March 20-24, 2019

Welcome to Prague

Join choirs, bands, and orchestras from around the world at Young Prague, one of the most culturally diverse and enjoyable European events for young musicians ages 8-26. Since 2002, this festival and competition has given youth choirs, bands, and orchestras the unique opportunity to showcase their talent and skill along with over 1,000 other musicians.

Young Prague includes special events hosted by Prague city officials, including ceremonies, concerts and social gatherings for guest ensembles. Additional highlights include competing in spectacular venues such as the National House, performing in the historic St. Nicholas Church, sightseeing in Prague, an evening cruise on the Vltava River, and marching in a festive parade through the heart of the city.

Performance groups can participate in adjudicated or non-adjudicated sections, and whether partaking in the competition or not, the time in Prague is highly rewarding and enhanced by new friendships with youth from many nations.

Exemplifying music as a universal language, Young Prague has welcomed ensembles from Australia, Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Depart on a flight from North America bound for Prague, Czech Republic. Meals and snacks will be served during your trip.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2019 | WELCOME TO PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

Upon arrival in Prague, meet your Music Contact International Tour Manager and travel by private motor coach to your conveniently located hotel. Check in and refresh, before enjoying an orientation walk through the “city of a hundred spires.”

Scenically situated on the Vltava River, Prague is one of Europe’s most visited cities. Prague’s cobbled lanes and courtyards hold ancient chapels, castles, fragrant gardens, unique shops, atmospheric cafés and plenty of photo opportunities! Once known as the conservatory of Europe, you will be strolling in the steps of musical greats who spent time here including Mozart, Antoní Dvořák, Leoš Janáček and Bedřich Smetana.

After the walk, return to the hotel, where a wonderful group dinner will be served.

THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 2019 | YOUNG PRAGUE FESTIVAL | CONCERT

Following breakfast in the hotel dining room, explore Prague with the help of a local Czech guide.

You might visit the Castle District, the largest medieval castle complex in Europe and the ancient seat of Czech kings throughout the ages. Alternatively, you may want to tour Jewish Prague, which recalls the years before World War II when Prague was one of the intellectual and spiritual hubs of European Judaism. Villa Bertramka, where Mozart lived and finished the score of Don Giovanni shortly before its memorable premiere at the Estates Theater in 1787 is another optional visit.

In the afternoon, return to the hotel to prepare for your first festival concert at one of Prague’s magnificent churches, such as the St. Salvator Church of the Holy Savior, with its baroque steeple and large semicircular windows.

This evening, your group is invited to a specially hosted welcome dinner and social event with guest musicians from many countries. Directors are invited to a reception in Prague’s Old Town Hall.

FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2019 | PRAGUE | COMPETITION

After breakfast, attend the Festival Opening Ceremony along with a matinee concert given by Bambini di Praga, one of the most prominent ensembles of young Czech choral singers.

Afterwards, festival adjudications are held. Ensembles compete in the beautiful National House in front of the jury and other participating musicians.

The afternoon is free in Prague. Be sure to spend time in Old Town with its lively Old Town Square, home of the famous Astronomical Clock, and along the Charles Bridge with its quirky statues, display of street musicians and crafts sellers.

In the evening, dinner is served at the hotel followed by a cruise on the Vltava River overlooking the city.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2019 | PARADE IN PRAGUE | CONCERT

After breakfast at the hotel, ensembles traditionally march in a colorful parade through Prague’s City Center. Bands and orchestras then perform on an open-air stage in the Old Town Square, while choirs sing in lovely St. Nicholas Church.

At night, a celebratory farewell dinner is served followed by an awards ceremony with group sing and a closing dance party, rounding off Young Prague on a festive note.

SUNDAY, MARCH 24, 2019 | DEPART PRAGUE

Depart for North America or extend your stay in the Czech Republic or another exciting destination in Europe.
